Are you in need of pallet rack installation in Houston? You’ve come to the right place.
How is pallet racking installed?
While assembling pallet racks lends itself to a straightforward installation process, it is by no means an easy one. Missing even a single component, whether it be a slab, an anchor, or an upright, can compromise the integrity of your system and potentially lead to unsafe work conditions in the warehouse. At New Era, our experienced team is trained in safe installation and adhere to strict quality standards. We use things like column protectors to improve the durability of your build and row spacers to ensure that the install location is perfect the first time around, among other things.
With all of that said, here is some information about what you need to know about the installation process before you start clearing the area of inventory.
Read the guide
We consider this a very necessary first step in the installation process. To successfully complete your warehouse racking installation, read the guide the rack manufacturer put in place. It usually contains critical information about the various elements of the system, including wire decking, frames, bays, level stability, avoiding damage, and even exact measurements that can help you place the shelves.
Inspection
The next step to successfully installing a pallet rack system is to inspect the pallet rack as well as your space. This is crucial as missing components can delay installation or, as mentioned above, lead to project failure entirely. Look at the area and refer to the pallet racking you have received. Take note of the beams, uprights, and shelving you’ll be working with. Make sure that all the necessary bolts, equipment, parts, and materials are present and accounted for.
Once you’ve confirmed that all of the important components are ready to use, you’re in business and ready to proceed!
Site preparation
After inspecting the site, you can begin to prepare the area for installation. This step absolutely cannot be skipped! You need to have the floor and walls inspected to make sure they’re capable of supporting the shelving system before you start work.
Next, move all material handling equipment, conveyor systems, accessories, and stock not necessary for the installation of pallet racking systems out of the warehouse before beginning. If something goes wrong and the install fails, your items won’t be damaged this way. Also, ensure that the aisles and adjacent areas are clear of all types of obstructions and mark off the spacing ahead of time. Confirm that the location in question is where you want your rack columns to sit.
Installation
Now it’s time to install the system top to bottom. Uprights go up first, followed by the back and front beams (in that order). Follow this up by finishing all remaining bays and mezzanines, testing weight capacity, and, finally, moving your product on the newly constructed deck.
As you can see, the installation process isn’t quite as simple as just pulling the shelves out and anchoring them in place. On the contrary, there are many factors you must take into account and, should you run into issues with wall ties, shims, or unexpected holes, you’ll likely need to call the professionals to repair the damage and finish the job. Why not start off on the right foot by using expert installers?
There are a variety of benefits to working with professionals on the installation of your pallet rack system. One of the biggest is simply having someone to answer any questions you might have about any part of the install. From adjusting the height of the frame to beam installation and securing decks and anchors, professional installers have the specialized knowledge needed to quickly and safely get your storage racks ready for business operations.
